I would like to be a balanced football team, … I would like to rush the ball well. I know how much better it is on everybody when you can rush the football.

There was no panic. We challenged each other.

If we don’t play better we’re going to struggle especially the next couple of weeks. So I’m expecting us to go back to work and correct our mistakes.

Rick will start and we’ll rotate probably. I want somebody to take the job and it be it.

He won the game, basically. It’s hard to believe from a punter, but the guy’s been incredible, not just with the length of the kicks but the direction of his kicks. Your jaw drops as...

You know, those guys all rode school buses, those Bluebird school buses to the game when they were in high school and played, … They got off the bus, put on the pads and played....

Randy has dedicated his adult life to this program,

Their offensive scheme is a proven scheme. It’s effective if you have the right people running it.

There is a sense of anxiety to hurry up and get started and get back on track.

They split the reps (in practice). We have two quarterbacks. Whoever runs out there first will be first.

I’m sure he’s kept every note he’s ever taken, and he was a very good note taker. We usually have two or three guys signaling in plays so nobody gets a bead on what we’re...

Those are scary games. Everybody was talking about everything but UAB. Now we’ve got that one behind us. We know a little bit more about ourselves.

He received a ticket for minor consumption. It happened after a group of guys still unknown to him jumped him. He got beat up. The officers that came gave him a citation.

He took advantage of all the work he got in the spring and right now I’m comfortable with him being our center.

That’s not what we expect as a football team. What you saw out there was unacceptable. We’re going to go back to work next week and get it turned around. It seems like we can’t...

This is a group of very, very prideful men as a staff that we’re talking about that loves the program, loves the kids and has worked extremely hard. We just, offensively, haven’t been able to...

So it’s like Auburn and Georgia last year. That’s the exact kind of performance we’re going to need and we’re going to look for.

Us doing something like that, reflecting on all they have been through down there with the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, is very minimal as far as an adjustment on our part. It’s the right thing...

If we win the game, it’s a huge step towards winning the SEC championship. If we lose, it puts us in bit of a chase mode. We’ve been in both spots in the past. But...

We had a meltdown from a kicking game standpoint,

They split the reps [in practice]. We have two quarterbacks. Whoever runs out there first will be first,

In my 13 years, I’ve not had a season like this. I have never had anything that was easily handed to me and this (season) is not easy. We’ll make whatever tough decisions need to...

We need to play a little bit better against the good people,

If you can’t run and move your feet, then you’re useless. I don’t want to be known as the biggest. I want to be known as the best.

We’ve bent over backward to do everything we can to make this happen including going down the day of the game, … Obviously, if they’re sending people out of Louisiana, I don’t know why we...

He’s as dominating a football player as we’ve had when he’s playing at his best.

I guess it will be real important. Going back to my early days that was a big deal. You put your stamp on a team, on a program.

All the positions are not where we need them to be yet and, certainly, getting some of the injured guys back will help us. But I like the way our guys go about their business...

If I could sprinkle magic dust on it, heck, I’d fix it.

They are very special. I don’t know of any college program now with the numbers as they are that could do without them. Occasionally you have a youngster come up and earn a scholarship and...

We’re not sure if he can get back for the first game [against UAB on Sept. 3] or the second game. We’re just not sure. He’s ahead of schedule so we certainly expect him to...

It’s a challenge with what we’ve got coming up, but we can do it.

But I believe those other guys will come out of the pack.

Obviously if they’re sending people out of Louisiana, I don’t know why we would be going in, … Our president (John Peterson) will not allow that to happen, I’m sure the conference office will be...

These were mostly a few immature young men that embarrassed us; they’ll either work their way out of it, or they won’t be here [come fall]. It could be a lot worse. We’re not sitting...

I don’t know that we’ve done anybody justice as to where we’re going, but with what we’ve got, we’ve done the best that we can.

That is certainly no reflection on Rick because he can help our football team win.

We’re obviously chasing now, but you really don’t have any choice if you want to have a chance to go and compete in a very hostile environment.

It’s exciting for Peyton and for our program and our fans and administration and everybody concerned to have this chance to honor one of our greats from the past. To be a part of the...

We hadn’t played very well obviously in the first half. I don’t know if there is a better story in the country than Rick Clausen doing what he got done here.

I can’t say that Rick had that many opportunities. ‘ I don’t think I can sit here and give you an evaluation right now. Neither one of them played very good, but the people around...

I wasn’t going to get on a plane and take our kids to into a dangerous situation. If I wouldn’t [with] my children, why would I send my other children?

I’m very hopeful we’ll start this season at a level of play that we never reached last season because we gave up entirely too many big plays and too many first downs and too many...

Hindsight is 20-20, and I was trying to be fair to all concerned, … Rick had played really well for us. It’s not working out. What degree it’s caused some of the issues versus man-to-man...

The field was covered, … Apparently it drains off really well like ours does. If it’s a little muddy, it’s muddy on both sides.

Right now, I think we have one good tailback and a committee. Those guys are going to play themselves through it.

Erik is our quarterback right now, but we have two quarterbacks. Rick did a great job. It wasn’t one of those clear-cut things.

Sometimes when you’ve got an open date you’re not very glad that you’ve got it. When you’ve got some momentum and things are going good you don’t want to break it. In this particular case...

He doesn’t seem quite as aggressive right now as I would like for him to be, or as he was at times last year, … Plus, last year he had pushed himself out front. When...

Most of our questions are about second-team positions so … you can continue to compete for those. The one or two that are first-team positions, yeah, we’d like to have those settled.
