Many students see the importance of the minor, and even a major in Spanish for personal pleasure, for interest in new careers and for enhancement of their own careers.

Many students from the social sciences have expressed a desire to learn the language because they know it will be useful in their field of work.

Among other things, Spanish language, culture and history are, whether some people like it or not in this area, part of the history of Louisiana. Spain is at the root of the state.

Unfortunately I have become a sort of department and wear several hats. Hopefully the minor will open doors so that someone else can come to Nicholls to teach as well.
