We hope that after the protests the government … withdraws the text. There is no other solution.

I am proud to be a Frenchman. I am proud to live in France, in a country where we don’t execute somebody 21 years later.

Unfortunately, Nicolas Sarkozy has contented himself with carrying out security policies for the chic districts, but has forgotten the housing estates.

I want to express our extreme reserve about the extension, all the more so since the measures have been used only on rare occasions. We do not see any reason to justify its extension.

What’s in play behind this violence is turf,

That’s why if we don’t put officials of high quality to work in these areas, I know what’s going to happen. The politicians will all surrender because they don’t want fires in their neighborhoods.

Schwarzenegger has a lot of muscles, but apparently not much heart.

The head of state should take measure of what is happening. Perhaps he should separate right away from his prime minister, perhaps he should envisage new elections.

When youths take to the street, you don’t know what can happen. By digging in its heels, the government is creating the conditions for troubles (that can have) dramatic consequences.

The prime minister, after two months of deafness, is realizing the gravity of the situation he has created in the country.
