I built this dome for golfers, but they didn’t come. So now it’s open to the whole city.

It’s part of the whole culture that looks at the West and what we do as the enemy.

When you have the premeditation of putting it in writing, it makes it different than a comment in a production meeting.

This really does remind me of covering a war zone or a Third World story.

Every story and every shot is different. We all exercise both journalistic and good-taste judgment in situations like that, but it’s a case-by-case basis.

I’ve found over the years that the effect on [reporters] is a delayed one…But exhaustion, both mental and physical, does set in.

For too many years, we only saw pictures like that in a Hollywood movie. Now it’s harsh reality, and it’s sobering.

Just to let them know they are not alone is so important. They’re so receptive and positive.

I have come across stories like this, but they all had international datelines. I measure my words. This is unprecedented.

That’s the uniqueness of this story. We’re in the southeastern part of the U.S., but we might as well be in a Third World country.

The [Villanovans for Life] statue is part of a bigger picture. I realize [abortion] is a politically sensitive topic, but if people don’t want to look at [the statue], they won’t have to.

This is a huge story no matter what course it takes,

We’re keeping the same level of folks in New Orleans to tell the ongoing recovery and the rebuilding and all the things that have been dominating the screen for the last 3-1/2 weeks.

That’s why we get prematurely gray and have gastrointestinal problems. There have been a lot of big, glitzy stories, but if you play the odds, maybe the rest of year is quiet.
