The credibility of the Election Commission has been seriously undermined. If there is one important lesson of the local-body elections, it is the Election Commission must be thoroughly overhauled.

Whatever the government of Pakistan has may have stated in its letter to Interpol must be a perversion of justice [and] must be a manipulation of the legal and judicial process in Pakistan.

The PPP and Bhutto will not succumb to such pressure tactics of the military dictatorship.
