When we hit the store, the police were on the scene. We were literally picked off the stools and taken to the holding cell.

We wanted to make a difference. We wanted to let the country know we weren’t second-class citizens.

We’ve lost a lot of ground. We’ve gotten complacent.

We didn’t want them brutalized or mistreated. For them to go that morning knowing what we had in mind took a lot of courage.
