Steve is a player that can win games in many ways — with his bat, his glove and his knowledge. He will give Felipe many options in the outfield as well as provide great veteran...

You’ve got to get this guy closer to game action, fast-twitch action. Anything he’s doing right now is under quote-unquote control. It’s not as if he’s being presented into the game. Until he does that...

It’s obvious we have to be more fortified if in fact for whatever reason Barry and/or Mo (Alou) don’t play 120-plus games,

It could happen soon but I’m not smart enough to know if it’s going to happen tomorrow. I don’t know how many times I’ve said the same thing. Either you guys aren’t getting it or...

I’m swallowing hard. I’m really trying to fathom how in this day in age it can even be said. This is not something we’re going to take lightly. It’s a very emotional subject. It’s a...

I’m trying to make these guys incrementally better.

I don’t want to be too hard-line about it, but the more we see of the old Jason Schmidt, the more you want to sign him.

The great thing about him was last year when he was tested in the first half, then [we saw] the second half he had. He had a great work ethic, and every time he goes...

I think you want him in one spot, … We discussed Pedro being the third baseman, which is good for our defense. It’s good for him to play every game in one spot.

This is his forte. This is his God-given ability. I wouldn’t be surprised. But he’s had a tremendous layoff.

I’m not the manager, thank God. I just hope (Bonds) is in the lineup to bat somewhere. I think we all know what we’re up against, and especially he knows what he’s up against.

Taking batting practice is one thing, and taking fungoes and running the bases at 50 percent,

I think we all know he can still hit,

Todd brings a veteran presence to the team and he’ll be one of the catchers in the competition for the backup spot behind Mike Matheny.

When he went out to pitch, everyone felt it was a win day. The guys liked playing behind him. His record is evidence that he had more talent than he was given credit for.

The first thing that comes to mind is we might have dodged a bullet of losing Scott. This guy has got quite a track record.

I’m not worried about pitchers, but I have some concerns about Mo. Guys will be running 90 feet, throwing long, going all out. Yes, you have some anxieties.

What that means in the greater scheme of things, I’ll know more tomorrow. The knee was tolerant. He was sore in the obvious places, being the hands and upper torso. It’s a good first step...

wouldn’t be surprised at anything. But he’s had a tremendous layoff. I don’t care who you are, he’s been out a long time.

In a short time, Noah has showed us that he’s someone who gives us a chance to win every time he takes the mound. We expect for him to be a long time fixture in...

Knowing him, he’s going to want to go out there when he’s ready to go. He’s not going to want to go out and take baby steps, like pinch-hitting.

He now knows, not that he wouldn’t have if he had played, he knows firsthand that he’s still the force he was before he missed all this time.

It will be a good test in the first three series. Going into a pitcher’s park against a team that won the division last year, then going home to our place that’s a pitcher’s park...

It’s almost surreal he’s going to be out there.

I think a return to the National League will be what he needs, although he had a great second half. So we consider ourselves fortunate.

He’s had his challenges in spring training to get out of the gate. If ever there a year that he needed to be on time, it’s this year. He’s a free agent-to-be, and we certainly...

It would give a boost to the team and give a snapshot of what might be possible next year. Whether he plays this year or how much remains to be seen.

He was a possible callup and he’s the guy to keep an eye on. We’ll take a long look at him. The other players are A-ballers, still cutting their teeth.

It’s just one year. A lot of it has to do with the makeup of teams, how the pitching has been, how fair the ballparks play. That changes from year to year.

He’s 32-years old and has learned a lot from his experience,

He has never made an overture he wants to be anywhere but here. He’s told everybody in the past he wants to retire as a Giant.

He has had some quality at-bats, and pitchers have pitched him really tough.

[General manager Brian Sabean revealed Barry Bonds has taken light batting practice for the last couple of days in Los Angeles, the first time he officially has hit off a pitcher since spring training.] It’s...

Mark will definitely augment our offense when he is in the lineup and prove to be a threat off the bench with the game on the line.

Only God and he know how much he’s going to play. And the manager.

We obviously have to make some significant changes to improve our lot,

Everybody has been holding their breath, waiting for this. Especially us.

Simply put, Matt Morris is a winner. He’s a gamer who not only gives his team a chance to win every time he pitches, but as his record indicates he’s around to collect the win...

every game that Matt Cain pitched.

I do know he has interest. We’ve pursued him as much as any player we possibly could, of recent note. We hope it comes to a head in the next day or so.

I think it’s reasonable to think he can play 120 games. I know we’re going to have to rest him, and some days he’ll come in cranky and unable to go. The next step is...

I expect we’ll have a better chance to win games, especially against right-handers. He has the ability to affect the team and provide a snapshot for the rest of the season and next year.

I think it’s going to be similar to this year where the shortage of veteran pitchers I don’t know if it will approach the spending it did this year, but it seems to be that...

Matt will be a perfect complement to the top of the rotation.

There are a lot of brilliant people in all walks of life. That doesn’t make you a manager of people. Our jobs are about managing people, crisis management on a daily basis. If you don’t...

It’s quite possible it could be a dog and pony show until after Dec. 7. It’s seemingly going slower than I ever could have expected. … I’m not sure, but my inclination the last day...

The reason the moves were made, … was we think the players we brought in will give us a better chance to win now. If what they do bodes well for next year, fine.

As a GM, to get a switch-hitter who’s a leadoff hitter with a lot of dimensions — power, speed, the ability to play the outfield the way he does — is a godsend to the...

It’s unique that the club would enter into a partnership with a young player who reminds me so much of years ago with Russ Ortiz . Noah is by far one of the most competitive...

To be this good and do it every time out … it’s impossible. What are the odds on this? He’s got to be close to the top of that list [of great baseball streaks]. So...
