Hold them, soothe them and tell them you are sorry that you lost track of them. But the wise parent never keeps his or her eyes off the child outside of the home.

Children are creatures of habit and very much depend on a routine to feel secure and function well. Kids fall apart when you change their sleep schedule. They need at least 12 hours.

Obviously, some parents drill too much stranger-danger information into the child and it becomes a problem. The child becomes too fearful to do anything out in the world.
