It is not the runway length that’s the issue. Runways are either adequate or they’re not.

The cause of the in-flight break up of TWA Flight 800 was a fuel-air explosion in the center wing tank.

We cannot be certain that this, in fact, occurred, but of all the ignition scenarios we considered, this scenario is the most likely.

The tapes were in good condition on both recorders.
